'Billy the Kid' Story Code '9623' by William Welch |
![]() |
July, 1881: Tony and Doug materialise in Lincoln County, New Mexico, just as a gang of men on horseback ride in. The two time-travellers warn the Sheriff, but find themselves caught up in a jailbreak by the lawman’s prisoner, William Bonney – otherwise known as Billy the Kid. The riders free their leader, but in the confusion, the Sheriff is killed. Billy orders Tony at gunpoint to make a suicide run into the street, but Doug grabs a gun and shoots the outlaw, allowing him and Tony escape on horseback. However, they are unaware that the bullet merely hit Billy’s belt buckle; the outlaw swears to get his revenge on Doug, and, together with his gang, he rides off in pursuit. While the two time-travellers find shelter in a deserted shack, the personnel at Tic-Toc learn that all of Billy’s victims are listed by name except for two strangers - who could be Doug and Tony. Doctor Swain and Doctor MacGregor realise they must transfer their colleagues immediately – but the Time Tunnel’s power supply is low and will take hours to recharge…
Cliff-hanger: Doug and Tony materialise aboard a pirate ship engaged in attacking a Spanish vessel. They are both captured by the marauders and faced with imminent death...
